Meet the
SKJ Law Team
Scott Jones, Attorney
Scott K. Jones is an accomplished trial attorney with decades of experience representing businesses, executives, entrepreneurs, and individuals in complex commercial litigation, business disputes, fiduciary matters, trade secret litigation, high-net-worth estate planning, and select personal injury and wrongful death matters. Through SKJ Law, Scott delivers the sophisticated experience and proven results of “Big Law” with a more focused, efficient, and personalized approach.
Known for his strategic evaluation of risk and practical problem-solving, Scott understands the value of early dispute resolution—but also recognizes when a high-stakes matter requires taking the fight to the courtroom. His career includes multimillion-dollar plaintiff recoveries, major defense victories, complex shareholder disputes, international contract matters, and the recovery of rare, multimillion-dollar automobiles and historical assets.
Scott earned his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law, where he served as a Staff Editor of the Dayton Law Review, after earning his B.S. in Business Administration in Finance from Miami University. He is admitted to practice in Ohio, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio.
Beyond his practice, Scott is committed to his community. He is the immediate past Board Chair of the Mason Deerfield Community Development Corporation and previously served as Board Chair of the Mason-Deerfield Chamber of Commerce, along with leadership roles in several other community organizations.
Outside the office, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife, Denise, and their three daughters, Hallie, Abby, and Mary (“MJ”), as well as traveling, cooking, golfing, and adding to his bourbon collection.
Patty Miller, Paralegal
Patty has worked in various law offices in a variety of litigation roles since 1989 (she won’t allow me to do the math), when as a young bride she moved to Fayetteville, NC while her husband was stationed at Ft. Bragg. While that career start was out of economic necessity, Patty found it was the perfect match for her talents and love of a challenge! Patty has assisted dozens of attorneys over the years--in and out of the courtroom. Planning for and implementing the visual presentations that juries now expect in the courtroom is one of her favorite challenges. Patty’s remembers—but doesn’t miss—trials requiring her to haul 30 or more boxes into the courtroom and hauling them back out again afterward. She has seen the advancement of technology that now allows her to leave 25 of those boxes at the office and happy for it!
I met Patty almost 20 years ago when she supported me in a wrongful death trial in Springfield, Ohio. She has supported me since in the administration of my cases and other trials. She is a trusted colleague who has been indispensable to the success of our firm.
But Patty’s greatest personal accomplishment has been earning the title of proud grandma to her granddaughter and four grandsons ages 1-6. She’ll always prefer being outside rather than inside on a beautiful day, and hiking trails with her husband. I’m happy Patty took my call to help me set up my own firm and serving my clients. She’s a great asset to my practice and to my clients.
David Back, Counsel
“Several” years ago, Dave came to Cincinnati from Connecticut to attend law school at the University of Cincinnati, and after meeting his wife Jamie here, Dave decided to stay and raise his family. After law school, Dave served as a law clerk to the Honorable Mark P. Painter in Ohio’s First District Court of Appeals. After a short stay at a large law firm practicing civil litigation, Dave has made a career assisting other lawyers in their practice.
Dave has worked on various types of commercial and business litigation, including disputes concerning product liability, restrictive covenants, trade secrets, and construction law. Besides trying to find ways to win cases, Dave enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, playing what at times passes for golf, and watching his UConn Huskies.
